Pool Alarms & SensorsEvery year, hundreds of children drown in residential swimming pools and thousands of children are treated at hospitals for near drowning incidents. Pool alarms can be an effective safety device, if they're working properly. This is one home security device that you will want to work if your toddler or a neighbor's child somehow falls into your swimming pool with no one around to pull them out of the pool. 5 types of pool alarms are commonly used today. Surface pool alarms detect waves on the surface of the pool, however these may create a false alarm if a strong gust of wind or a bird hits the water's surface. Advertiser Links
Submersed or subsurface pool alarms detect water displacement and can be used when a pool cover is used. Many children have gotten trapped under pool covers and drowned, so the subsurface pool alarms have an advantage over surface alarms which cannot be used when a pool cover is drawn across the pool's surface. The last type of alarm is a personal wristband alarm that a child wears when in the pool area. The alarm is activated when it comes into contact with water. Verify that any model you purchase meets all the ASTM (or comparable) safety standards. Contact door alarms are also available for gates that control access to swimming pools.
