Exterior CamerasYou'll want to place your security camera high, out of range of a person. Still, any person can use long stick to damage or vandalize a security camera so consider the shock resistance of the camera if it is placed in a public accessible area such as a driveway. Most installations are from the bottom of the soffit or edge of the roof above the area needed to be covered. The camera has to be set at a sufficient distance to capture the facial characteristic and body shape of the intruder, in order for you to make it available to police after a break in or an attempt. For installation under the soffit, check the area of the soffit that is under a rafter, or on the wall that has a stud behind it. The weight of some cameras makes it essential that the bracket is screwed into a solid piece of wood. A solid installation location means wind won't be blowing your camera lens or vibrations on the home's soffit or siding won't cause blurred images. If your monitor has panning capabilities, ensure there is sufficient room for it to move freely to either extreme left or right direction.
