Personal Safety Alarms

While protecting your property from theft is one of the most common aspects of home security, there is a wide variety of other important security and safety products worth looking at.

Most people do not consider that their home is already fitted with a security alarm, but in many places smoke alarms are required in residences. In the United States, it is estimated that more than 4,000 people die each year and at least 20,000 people suffer from serious injuries from residential fires.

Smoke is not necessarily your only concern with air quality. As more homes are fitted with gas fireplaces and furnaces, and cities become more polluted, products are now available to measure air quality and carbon monoxide levels within your home.

Other environmental issues such as flood detectors and low-temperature indicators can be purchased as single units or as part of a comprehensive security system.

But perhaps as we see the North American population aging and more baby boomers electing to remain longer in their homes, health monitors with panic buttons attached are becoming one the most basic personal security products.

All of these products are an additional expense to homeowners, however many insurance companies will lower monthly premiums when a residence has a comprehensive Home Security System in place.
