Security Kits

Security zone planning is the key to an effective home security system.

A ecurity zone is designated as a protected area. Security kits are available to protect from 1 to 100 zones in and around your home, depending on your security needs.

Once you decide which security zones you want protected, you will have to decide what type of space protection you want for each zone. Space protection can consist of glassbreak detection, motion sensors, door opening detection, surveillance cameras, etc.

For instance, a zone, such as the master bedroom, may comprise of door sensors and glassbreak detection for windows in that room. However, another zone, your living room, might include closed-circuit television cameras.

When you're at home, you can program the security system to shut down sensors in certain zones, while still keeping other zones monitored. Entry codes for family members, friends and service workers can be built into your system.

A basic security system consists of an alarm, a control panel and a key pad. For more complex security needs a security kit or component package can include:

• Contact sensors - detect opened windows and doors.
• Glassbreak sensors - detect the sound of breaking glass.
• Motion sensors - detect an intruder's movement.
• Carbon monoxide detectors - detect CO2.
• Smoke alarms - detect smoke or fire.
• Temperature alarms - detect changes in temperature.

CCTV (or closed-circuit television camera) security systems include:

• Security cameras - capture images.
• Video monitors - display images captured by cameras.
• Switchers/sequencers - switch the view from one security camera to another.
