Flood and Temperature Alarms

Today's environmental detectors can monitor home temperatures to make sure plants and pets are warm enough, or to ensure water pipes do not freeze. They can also raise the alarm if flooding occurs.

Typically, these kinds of monitoring devices are used for homes that are not occupied all year round, and are often built with auto-dialing features so that neighbors or professional services are notified that there is a problem. Both types are available as individual units or part of a larger, more comprehensive security system.

Low Temperature Monitors work to prevent damage from cold or freezing temperatures by notifying neighbors when the heat is off. Single units can be plugged into an electrical outlet and may have battery backups to call neighbors when the power goes out. Other units may plug into a lamp that will switch on for close neighbors to see. Temperate gauges and pre-recorded messages are available depending upon the product.

Flood Monitors are designed to notify neighbors, family or professionals when there is water leakage within a home. There are many things that can occur that can cause flooding damage:
  • Water heaters and boilers wear out and leak
  • Laundry tubs, sinks and toilets overflow
  • Hoses and pipes break
  • Sewer and septic lines back up
  • Power outages or blackouts
  • Water from dehumidifiers and condensation from air conditioners
  • Storm water from clogged gutters, leaking garden hose, or worn foundations
