ADT Home Security

American District Telegraph began business in 1874 and is the perhaps the largest security service company in North America. The company was created when almost 60 telegraph companies joined together as one company.

In 1901, ADT was incorporated as subsidiary of Western Union and began separating its business into messenger services and signal services. The ADT we commonly know today is the signal services segement. During the pre WWII era, ADT built its reputation as the premier, security system services provider. During the second World War, ADT created new security systems that played an important security role on the homefront as men were fighting overseas.

The company was purchased and sold two more time during the 1980's and 90's, eventually being acquired by its current parent company, Tyco International. ADT security systems are marketed in over 200 countries worldwide.

In 1974, ADT created its the automated Central Station - which was the first version of the home security services monitoring center network that now serves over a million customers.

During the 1990's, innovative, new ADT home security products were added to ADT's full line of security services including wireless sensors and security cameras. Currently ADT supplies a large array of products and services including Home Security, medical monitoring, mobile security and home monitoring services.
